Joyce Fung’s work, which includes installation, sculpture, and photography, is the result of her response to a specific site of architecture. Construction materials, debris, cracks and fissures, artifacts, ephemera, memories, and lived experience – things meant to be forgotten, unknown, and unseen – are collected, re-contextualized, constructed as new forms, and re-staged at the site to be seen for the first time. Activating the viewer’s spatial and sensory experience, her objects and images reveal the materiality and history of the site contained within its parts. Often, they are claimed by the community of the site, becoming part of its life.
