Through Our Door
Beijing, China
2020-2022

This exhibition is created in and about Jing Yuan, the Garden of Serenity, Henry Murphy’s 1926 dormitory for Yenching University’s women, now classroom for Peking University’s students.

It is of three parts. “Culture · Memories” lets Jing Yuan’s people speak through a collection of interviews, photographs, and personal writings. “History · Her/histories” speaks to Jing Yuan’s things through an archive of architectural fragments and research-based texts about them. “Art · Conversations” speaks with Jing Yuan as a place of space and time through a series of installations which are too furniture and work in play with its architecture, nature, lights, shadows, and ourselves.

Onsite and online, in Chinese and English, it invites everyone to come into this site of 97 years that is our home.
